Busy Few Days

We've had a busy week so far.

Monday we visited Lauren at work (and her new home!) and the kids loved getting into the cab of some of the work trucks.

This morning we went to the Days of '47 float preview party.

BYU

Our favorite float was the one with a picture of our ancestor on it. The elderly lady in the far picture, next to the bridge, is my great-great grandmother Eliza Whytock Wood.

Tonight we went to Robert's work party where the kids had their run of the place. They were pretty excited for their face painting, or arm painting in Camden's case.

Brighton Lakes Loop

For my birthday I told Robert I wanted to go hiking. So we took the kids to Grandma and Grandpa's and headed up Big Cottonwood Canyon to Brighton. We did an 8 mile loop around six lakes: Lake Mary, Lake Martha, Lake Catherine, Dog Lake, Twin Lake, and Silver Lake.

The trail to Lake Mary is a very popular trail. Dog Lake is just off that trail. Dog Lake is more like a pond now and is slowly drying up into marshland.

Lake Mary was one of the biggest lakes and the most popular.

Most of the crowds stopped at Lake Mary, but Lake Martha was just down the trail.

There were wildflowers everywhere! Can you tell I was happy with all the flowers?

On the trail up to Lake Catherine.

A view of Lake Martha from above.

We stopped to eat a little at Lake Catherine.

Then we walked around the lake and headed back down to Lake Mary where we would pick up a trail to Twin Lakes.

Looking down at the Brighton parking lot where we parked.

After getting back to Lake Mary we took a short trail across the mountain to Twin Lake. We didn't see a lot of people on that trail because most people either hike up to Lake Mary, or up to Twin Lakes another way, not both.

Twin Lake. It looks like sometime the lake may be two lakes, hence the name Twin.

We decided to walk around the lake. We saw a moose with a calf at the end of the lake (which is the scariest kind of moose to find!)

As we were headed back down the mountain after Twin Lake we saw another moose, a bull. The trail down was pretty steep and we were happy we decided to go down this way and not up.

The last lake we saw was Silver Lake before heading back to our car. This lake has a boardwalk that goes around it and is easily accessible from the parking lot at Brighton. It was a lovely birthday hike!

Draper Days

This was our first summer in Draper, so therefore our first experience with Draper Days. We got a brochure in the mail and it looked like Draper Days is a big deal around here.

It started Tuesday with a children's bike parade and games,

The kids loved the inflatable obstacle course. We stayed until almost everyone else was gone and they got to go on it over and over again.

Micah was crazy since it was getting late and he was having fun. Free pizza too!

A couple days later we went to an outdoor movie, the new Annie, at the Draper Amphitheater.

And Friday night we went to see America (the band) at Draper Park. There were more inflatables that they kids played on while we waited.

While the band played the kids had fun playing on the blankets, but didn't really care about the band.
Camden had fun pretending to be a dog.

Sandberg Reunion Fun

Some time to relax at the Ranch.

Camden was so proud that he put his sunglasses on by himself.

The kids had plenty of time to play. The best part of the Ranch is that there is plenty of space for all of us to just hang out and enjoy each other other's company.

Friday we had our usual hot dog roast.

I realized after I gave Camden his s'more that night that it was his first s'more ever. He wasn't all that excited about it. The kids liked the uncooked marshmallows the best,

The little boys loved playing in the dirt and with the dump trucks.

Saturday during the day the kids played Minute to Win It games in the morning (but I was too busy helping with the games to take any pictures) and after lunch everyone competed with each other in a game of The Amazing Race. Saturday night we had our dutch oven cookoff.

And that night we had our Sandberg's Got Talent show along with Family Fued.

Micah was tired.

Dani and Elizabeth stole the show with their duet about being sisters.
